About Armed Forces Tribunal
The Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) is a specialized court that was established in India in 2009 to provide speedy and effective justice to members of the armed forces and their families. The tribunal has jurisdiction over disputes and complaints related to service matters, including promotions, transfers, pension, and disciplinary actions, among others.
The AFT comprises a chairperson and judicial and administrative members who are appointed by the central government. The tribunal has several benches located in different parts of the country and is empowered to hear appeals and petitions filed by serving and retired personnel of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as their dependents.
The AFT’s objective is to provide an independent and impartial forum for the resolution of disputes and grievances of armed forces personnel and to ensure that justice is served in a timely and efficient manner. The tribunal has streamlined procedures to ensure that cases are disposed of expeditiously, and its decisions are final and binding.
